It’s the most wonderful time of the year! That means you may be addressing envelopes, creating gift tags, or maybe even creating beautiful hand lettered gifts. In an effort to make your tasks just a little easier, we’ve put together samplings of several of our red and green products so that you can choose the color you want.
Sending holiday cards is a tradition for many. If you are ready to show off your calligraphy skills in the traditional fashion of using a dip pen, red and green inks are an excellent way to do so. For this category, we chose a few of our most popular inks to show you the shades of red and green available.
Calli Ink provides both a lovely red (burgundy) and a deep beautiful green that are water-resistant.
F.W. waterproof acrylic inks offer traditional red(crimson) and green (emerald green) for standing out on your envelopes.
McCaffery’s colored inks are ideal for a vintage lettering style. The soft colors are elegant and traditional and are not waterproof.
Finally, Winsor and Newton offers four colors perfect for Christmas lettering. Leaf green and scarlett are a little brights, and crimson and green offer deeper tones of red and green. These colors are not waterproof.
For those wanting to add the hand lettered touch to envelopes and gift tags without employing a dip pen and ink, markers serve as a favorable alternative. They allow for a quicker process but can still produce lovely results. The right choice of marker depends not only on the color you want, but also the style of calligraphy you want to use.
For broad edge styles, the Zig Calligraphy line is a popular choice. These double ended markers allow variation in size of lettering and produce great color. The Sakura Pigma Calligraphers are also wonderful. Available in three tip sizes, these permanent markers have strong tips to withstand large amounts of lettering. Both lines contain waterproof inks.
If monoline script is more your style, the Sakura Permapaques are a great choice. These water resistant markers will write on a variety of surfaces (we’ve had good success using them on slick Christmas cards) and produce lovely colors. Sakura Pigma Microns are also excellent for monoline lettering or drawn letters. These permanent pens come in a variety of tip sizes, and the red and green ink is ideal for Christmas.
If brush calligraphy is more your style, you have several options to choose from. The newest brush markers in our inventory are the Zig Art and Graphics. These markers have a brush tip and a bullet tip and produce juicy lettering. The brush tip is a little larger than the other makers we chose to highlight here, so they would be more useful on large envelopes or gift tags. Further, they are not waterproof and can be used with a waterbrush for beautiful watercolor effects. For smaller envelope lettering, both the Pentel Sign Pens and Faber-Castell Pitt Brush markers are fabulous choices. The Pentel Sign Pens come in a standard red and green water-based ink, while the Faber-Castell line has several choices of waterproof red and green India ink.
While this is certainly not an exhaustive sampling of every red and green we have available, it does give many stellar options for your Christmas lettering. We would love to see examples of your Christmas lettering projects! Please share with us on social media or email us pictures!
